DIY Carpet Cleaning Solutions

At home, accidents all the time. Most of the time this ends up causing something to get spilled onto the carpet and cleaning it. Carpet stains can be a source of stress for homeowners because they deteriorate the condition of the carpet and diminish its beauty. You can always rely on the services of a professional carpet cleaning company to get rid of the stains, but there are some effective cleaning solutions you can try yourself. In this blog post, we will explore some at-home cleaning solutions you can use to get rid of stubborn carpet stains.

Baking Soda and Vinegar: This duo is an effective option for cleaning many common household carpet stains. Create a solution using equal parts of baking soda and vinegar. The first step when cleaning a stain with the solution is to blot up any excess liquid. Then apply the paste that you create with the baking soda and vinegar with a soft brush. Let it sit for a few hours and then vacuum up the residue.

Club Soda: Club soda is a tried-and-true solution for stubborn stains like red wine and coffee. Clean up any excess liquid that was spilled and then pour the club soda directly onto the stain. After the club soda is applied, blot it with a sponge or soft cloth. Repeat this process until the stain is lifted.

Hydrogen Peroxide: Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful stain remover, especially for tough stains like blood or pet urine. Begin by blotting the stain with a clean cloth. Then create a solution using equal parts hydrogen peroxide and water and apply it to the stain. Let the solution soak for a few minutes and then blot with a clean cloth.

Dish Soap Solution: For general carpet stains, a simple dish soap solution can work wonders. Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water. Using a clean cloth or sponge, gently blot the stain with the solution. Avoid scrubbing, as it can damage the carpet fibers. Rinse with clean water and blot dry.

Salt: Salt is a handy remedy for fresh carpet stains, such as red wine or juice spills. Immediately after the spill occurs, blot up as much liquid as possible. Then, generously sprinkle salt over the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. The salt will absorb the liquid. Vacuum up the salt and repeat if necessary.

Cornstarch or Baking Powder: For greasy or oily stains, such as food or makeup spills, cornstarch or baking powder can be your savior. Sprinkle either of these powders directly onto the stain and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. The powder will absorb the oil. Vacuum up the powder and repeat if needed.
